Every year we all make a list of resolutions we are going to stick to and like me, most people don’t get past the first month. So how can you create goals that you can stick to?
Finding areas in your life that need improvement isn’t hard. The hard part is actually doing something about them. This is where many of us stumble when committing to growing in a new year so instead why not choose some personal growth goals that you can complete.
So what goals can you stick to?
Maybe you need to look at a more holistic approach to goal setting. That way, you will be able to set smaller goals to reach and ultimately at the end of it, you will be able to see the full impact those smaller steps have grown into.
If you accomplish nothing else you need to remember to love yourself. Only through truly loving ourselves are able to open our hearts to other people.
No matter if you are self-conscious, facing crisis, or just going through changes in your life, remember to love who you are. Even if you are falling apart, there is always something worth loving in yourself.
You are worth something.
You are important.
Remember that this year.
You also need to give yourself a break. Take time to grow as a person.
Address your demons and accept them.
Love your flaws. Love your achievements.
Getting to a point of personal happiness will not happen if you do not reflect on who you really are as a person
Falling back into old routines is so easy, no matter how determined you are to make changes. So remember to be ambitious. Remember, push yourself in areas of life that you may have ignored this previous year.
You could learn something new online.
Go for that promotion at work, put yourself out there and find a new partner. All you need to do is take that leap of faith.
Life is chaos and there will never be a perfect time to do anything. It is only by facing the things we fear and being uncomfortable that we grow as people.
The concept of mindfulness is relatively new in our Western culture, it is very beneficial to stress reduction and our overall health. Take some time in the new year to focus your thoughts and take deep breaths. When you feel stressed or overwhelmed remember to stop and breathe.
Life can be a challenge and cause us stress but there is nothing we cannot overcome by simply putting one foot in front of the other.
There are many ways that you can be charitable in life and they will all improve your quality of life. This does not simply mean donating money to a collection tin.
You could volunteer at a church or library. Being charitable with your time can be very rewarding and allows you to give back to your community. You could donate your used clothes this year or give blood at a blood drive. Both are a great way of being charitable.
The simplest form of charity is to sit and talk to someone who is lonely. The gift of conversation is a great thing.
You don’t need to be rich in order to be charitable. You can do so many things in order to give back. Selfless acts do wonderful things for your overall mental health and physical health.
Take Your Time
Take your time, don’t over commit.
Set goals if you want to, but allow yourself an adequate window of time to achieve them. If you don’t accomplish everything you want to in that first month or those first six months, it doesn’t matter.
You will either reach your goals or you won’t. There is always the next year to try again.
The most important part of setting any goals, be them personal or professional is knowing how to track them. What’s the point of setting goals and then not being able to see how far you have come and how much further you need to go.
Create a chart in a notebook or online and check off when you have completed something, or even half completed it. It’s already been said but if you don’t manage to complete everything you set for yourself, no worries, there’s always another year. No matter what, by taking the time to revaluate your life and see where you want to go is growth in itself.
