One of the nicest homemade gifts I have ever received was a custom body oil blend. Not only did it leave my skin feeling super soft and smooth, but it also smelt divine. Even to this day whenever I smell sandalwood, I think of that oil!

So, I thought it only fair to share with you all some amazing body oil combinations that you can make, whether for yourself or as a gift this festive season.

But before we start on creating the oils, you might want to think about the person who is going to receive this oil.

  • Have they mentioned any particular issues with their skin?
  • Do you know if they are sensitive to any ingredients?
  • Are there particular oils or scents that they don’t like?

If your unsure, I’d either ask them outright if you’re not going to surprise them or secretly enquire if you are.

Top Body Oil Blends

The first four blends I am going to share are perfect for these cold winter months. They have such a great festive fragrance and warmth.

For Winter

These first two are a rich moisturiser, perfect for deep moisturising.

  • 6 drops lavender
  • 4 drops frankincense
  • 4 drops myrrh
  • in 60 ml sweet almond oil

For a lighter moisturiser try:

Mature Skin

These two recipes are perfect for older bodies that need a little bit more TLC.

Body oils for all skin types

Dry Skin

These deeply moisturising oils are perfect for dry skin sufferers

Oily Skin

Yes, you can use body oils on oily skin and they can actually help to reduce the oiliness!

  • 8 drops lavender
  • 3 drops lemon
  • 3 drops petitgrain
  • in 60 ml sunflower oil

  • 5 drops each of bergamot, chamomile and geranium
  • in 60 ml safflower oil

Itchy/Sensitive Skin

Please do test all the oils before use but especially if you have itchy sensitive skin.

  • 5 drops rose
  • 9 drops chamomile
  • in 60 ml sweet almond oil

  • 8 drops lavender
  • 2 drops marigold
  • 5 drops violet
  • in 60 ml sweet almond oil

To keep all of the benefits of these oils for longer, add a vitamin E capsule or a teaspoon of wheatgerm oil to act as a preservative. Store the oils in a clean lidded bottle out of direct sunlight.

These would work exceptionally well if teamed up with an essential oil bath using similar oils.
