Sunday Morning Reviews

Sunday Faves – October 27th

My weekly roundup of favourite posts, Instagram accounts and general internet goodness.

It’s been a long time since I wrote a post like this. I’ve been struggling with what I want this space to be. Do I want it to be a place where I churn out blog posts in an effort to make money?

No.

I want it to be a place where I hone my authentic voice and share stuff that I find interesting and maybe of interest to you too.

So I’m going to start writing more about my thoughts and faves. This is as well as all the natural wellness and sustainable living posts. Plus I’m adding in more about writing for a living too.

Over to my Sunday Faves…

Meal Planning

I have a love-hate relationship with meal planning. It really does make life a lot easier, more cost-effective and better on the environment. But, part of me hates being constrained to a plan.

So I tend to do a general shop with a sort of meal plan in mind but nothing is written down otherwise that feels too much like I’m being told what to do!

I was looking for some autumnal inspiration for our shopping this past week and I stumbled upon this great roundup post from Homespun Seasonal Living. There are lots of amazing recipes from around the web to tempt you.

LBD – 5 ways

As I’ve gotten older I have found myself in a rut when it comes to fashion and clothes. Most days you’ll find me in a pair of skinny jeans, a long sleeve tee and a cardi. Very mumsy I know!

But with the big 40 just around the corner, I think I need a bit of a wardrobe shakeup. Keeping this in mind with my sustainable living plan, I want to source either good quality new clothing to create a capsule wardrobe or source out some pre-loved pieces.

I saw this post over on Instagram in Audrey’s stories and then she shared it over on her blog Mom Generations. The perfect black dress worn 5 different ways. 5 outfits from 1 dress, perfect for a capsule wardrobe.

Nordic Noir You Need to Read

I love a good crime novel. Well, actual a love a good novel no matter what the genre. But you can’t beat a good crime novel especially if it is set in Norway or the surrounding countries.

There is just something extra suspenseful about a murder set in the snowy landscape of a foreign country. One of my favourite scandi noir authors is Camilla Lackburg, but it’s always great to find new authors to read.

One blog I always love to pop over to find new reading recommendations id Crime by the Book. This past week she shared her list of the 6 best Nordic noir series you need to read. I haven’t read any of these so I’m really looking forward to delving into some new characters stories.

Finally, here are 5 of my favourite Instagram accounts from this week:

I had truly hoped that weight loss would bring me acceptance in today’s society. And then, it did. ⁣ ⁣ Over time, that realization has made me angry. ⁣ To be the same person on the inside and be treated differently for my outsides, bearing witness to it over and over again. ⁣ ⁣ All the while hiding a painful reality of having all of the same feelings of self-doubt and loathing to have followed me. ⁣ ⁣ As if the fat on my body was somehow the holder of my self-hate. ⁣ ⁣ I thought in losing the weight I would lose all of it, releasing it. ⁣ ⁣ I just wanted to release it.⁣ ⁣ And so now I sit in a thinner body. ⁣ With a new weight of knowing the truth of both sides. ⁣ ⁣ A truth that came with seeing and experiencing oppressive beliefs about my body that never truly ended. Even at an “acceptable” thinner size, I still experience it, for having cellulite, loose skin or stretch marks and now face knowing that this, this is the privileged side of the body shaming. ⁣ ⁣ I’m not sure what I’m even trying to say here. ⁣ I guess just needed to say something. Get a little angry about it. Remind myself yet again that we are more than our bodies. Dress them up and take them out. Watch them change. Let them change. Wear them with pride or work through your struggles with them. Feed them. Exercise them. ⁣ They are our best friend. ⁣ They are not our enemy. ⁣ ⁣ We’ve been so distracted by them, we ended up focusing on the wrong enemy the entire time. ⁣ ⁣ Until we are ready to treat each other as humans, equal, body diverse humans, we are missing it. We are missing the magic and the purpose. ⁣ ⁣ And if you say “sure love your body and all, but what about the diabeeeeeteesssss?” I will block you. ⁣ ⁣ Human to human, I will block you. ⁣ Human to human, it’s time we just love on and respect each other no matter the body that shells it. We can never know what trauma, sickness, health, or mental warfare that lies beneath and we shouldn’t need to know it to support her. I know she 👉 needed it. ⁣ ⁣ So we set our bodies, our shells, aside and remember that all are welcome here. My relationship with you, human to human, does not require it. ⁣ ⁣ Unless we’re hugging. ⁣Then maybe yeah.
