DIY Beauty: Lavender Salt Scrub

Have you always wanted to have a go at making your own beauty products? But always thought it would be too hard? Well here is the perfect DIY beauty recipe for you to start out with, Lavender Salt Scrub.

This easy to make salt scrub is perfect to keep your summer skin in perfect condition but is also great to keep your skin in tip-top shape all year round.

Add to that the use of Lavender essential oil, you get the dual combination of stimulating the surface of the skin whilst relaxing and soothing the mind and body.

Regular exfoliation is essential for healthy skin development. Using a body scrub once a week will help improve skin tone and texture, prolong a tan and even out any rough area’s caused by drying or overexposure to the elements.

Using essential oils in a body scrub not only gives the salts a great fragrance but also adds the effects of the essential oil into the treatment.

Lavender is a great soother for skin irritation. It can also aid peaceful sleep so by using this product before bed, you will have a better chance of a good nights sleep.

The salt acts as an exfoliant allowing the dead skin cells to be removed. This, in turn, opens up a new layer of skin which allow the essential oil carried in the olive oil to be absorbed deeper.

DIY Beauty: Lavender Salt Scrub

Lavender Salt Scrub in a Wooden Bowl

Before using any homemade products please try out on a small area of skin first.

Prior to using any essential oils, please read Essential Oils – what you need to know.

Always check with your health practitioner before trying anything new if you have allergies or ongoing medical conditions.

Ingredients

  • Sea salt, 2 tbsp
  • Olive oil, 2 tbsp
  • Lavender essential oil, 2 drops

Method

  1. Place salt in a bowl. Depending on how fine you want your scrub to be, you can with use a salt grinder or pestle and mortar to grind the salt crystals. If you haven’t got a pestle and mortar, use the back of a spoon.
  2. Add the oil and essential oil to the salt and mix thoroughly.
  3. Use immediately and ensure you rinse your skin really well after.
