Simply Remember: May

Wow, May you were a roller coaster of a month.

Busy in the garden and planning my herb patch, entering our busy time at work and half term with the kids. I always seem to forget just how busy May can be.

The school year is starting to tail off ready for the summer holidays. My youngest sat his SATs this month and is now getting ready for the transition from primary to secondary school.

Heading into summer is a great feeling, it is the season of warmth and fun. I love the long days of summer when we have no plans and no time constraints, the kids can stay up late and grow without the steering hand of school to guide them.

But before we head into the summer I want to document our May.

What’s been happening in May?

I started this blog initially as a way to document my journey to a simpler lifestyle and I thought it was going to take on more of a sustainable lifestyle route. But as I have thought and pondered on this, that isn’t really what I want to write about.

Living a simpler lifestyle is what I want to do but I have also always been drawn to nature. So that is the main focus I want to write about. How we can live a more natural life incorporating nature into it without impacting our environment.

May has been a month of reflection as we came to terms with the idea of having to have our German Shepherd Abbie out to sleep. It is still too early in the grieving process for me to go into details and I am sure at some point I will share the whats and whys but losing a pet is one of the most painful things you will go through as a family.

Well, I say reading but actually, I am listening to this book. The Green Witch by Arin Murphy-Hitcock. I have always had a fascination with witchcraft but I’m not 100% sure about the Wicca branch of it. Using herbs and being guided by the earth’s natural energies is more my type of witchcraft and this book explains a lot about this.

Sometimes no matter how many great movies are out at the cinema or on your preferred streaming platform, you just have to rewatch something. This month it was Practical Magic. I love this film and was flicking through the other Sunday afternoon after work and there it was. I want to set up a store like Verbena. One day…

What have you been up to this May?
